Frequently asked questions
We’re open Monday & Thursday from 4 pm to 9 pm, Friday & Saturday from noon till 9 pm, and Sunday from noon till 8 pm. We do shut our doors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays — even the best publicans need a nap and a pint of their own now and then. Plan accordingly, pop by when we’re open, and we’ll be ready to welcome you with a smile and something tasty.
You’ll find us happily tucked into Cheshire Village — just a mile south of Black Mountain’s town center, 13 miles east of Asheville, 10 miles west of Old Fort, and 20 miles shy of Marion. Simply follow NC 9 towards Chimney Rock, round the bend, and look left — if you hit the YMCA, you’ve gone too far (but don’t worry, we’ll still have a pint waiting when you swing back).
And yes, we’ve got plenty of parking — spots right out front, a lot tucked behind, and loads of on-street parking across NC 9. So no excuses — park it, pop in, and let us pour you something delicious.
Bring the whole pack! We’re happily family-friendly — little ones are always welcome (especially if they’re partial to half orders of fish & chips). Well-behaved pups are welcome too, especially on our patio where they can sniff the mountain air while you sip something stronger. Just keep the kids off the lead and the dogs off the tables, and we’ll all get along famously.
Not exactly — but we’re not monsters. While we don’t have a fancy printed children’s menu, we do offer half portions of our proper British classics like fish & chips and bangers & mash, just the right size for your little rascals. Our starters work a treat too if they fancy nibbling instead of feasting. Just give us a wink and we’ll sort them out — we aim to send them home well-fed, happy, and possibly ready for a nice long nap.
Absolutely! We always keep our herbivores and gluten-avoiders in mind. You’ll find tasty vegetarian and vegan dishes on our menu, plus a few that can be made vegan on request — just ask your server and we’ll gladly guide you through. We also offer gluten-free options and do our best to avoid cross-contamination, but please note our kitchen isn’t 100% gluten-free. If you have any dietary needs or allergies, just let us know — we’ll do our best to keep you safe, happy, and well-fed!
Besides a warm welcome and a pint that’ll cure what ails you? We believe in hearty comfort food, proper banter, and a good game or two — we’ve got plenty of board games lying about if you fancy a bit of friendly competition. Bring your mates, make some new ones, and settle in for a cosy time. If you’re not sure what to try first, just ask — we love helping folks find their new favourite tipple or pie.
We’re owned by Simon and Heather Townsend — one proper Brit, one spirited American. They met in New York City and eventually found their way to Black Mountain, where they decided to turn their shared love of good food, cosy pubs, and community into The Cheshire Arms. It’s a place built from a bit of British charm, a touch of Southern hospitality, and a whole lot of heart.
