Welcome

The Cheshire Arms invites you to join us in bringing British pub culture to Black Mountain North Carolina. Come in for a drink, a meal, or a friendly chat. We have plenty on offer from fine wine & spirits to beers - both local and British, to traditional dishes. If you're looking for a cozy place to relax and catch up with friends - The Cheshire Arms is the perfect gathering spot!

  • Where exactly are you located?
You’ll find us tucked away in Cheshire Village, just a mile south of Black Mountain’s town center — close enough for a quick jaunt, far enough to escape the bustle. We’re about 13 miles east of Asheville, 10 miles west of Old Fort, and 20 miles west of Marion — basically, we’re perfectly placed for anyone in need of a proper pint and a pie. Just follow NC 9 towards Chimney Rock, keep your eyes peeled after you round the bend, and you’ll spot us on the left before you hit the YMCA. If you pass the Y, you’ve gone too far — turn around and come back for a drink, you’ve earned it.
  • What are our hours?
We’re open Monday & Thursday from 4 pm to 9 pm, Friday & Saturday from noon till 9 pm, and Sunday from noon till 8 pm. We do shut our doors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays — even the best publicans need a nap and a pint of their own now and then. Plan accordingly, pop by when we’re open, and we’ll be ready to welcome you with a smile and something tasty.
  • Is there parking available?
We sure do! There’s plenty of parking right in front of the pub, a handy lot around back, and loads of on-street parking across NC 9. So no circling the block for half an hour — just pull in, park up, and come let us do the heavy lifting (by which we mean pouring pints and plating pies).
  • Do you have vegetarian/vegan/gluten free options?
Absolutely! We always keep our herbivores and gluten-avoiders in mind. You’ll find tasty vegetarian and vegan dishes on our menu. We also offer gluten-free options and do our best to avoid cross-contamination, but please note our kitchen isn’t 100% gluten-free. If you have any dietary needs or allergies, just let us know — we’ll do our best to keep you safe, happy, and well-fed!
  • Is The Cheshire Arms family-friendly? Can I bring my dog?
Bring the whole pack! We’re happily family-friendly — little ones are always welcome (especially if they’re partial to half orders of fish & chips). Well-behaved pups are welcome too, on our patio where they can sniff the mountain air while you sip something stronger. Just keep the kids off the lead and the dogs off the tables, and we’ll all get along famously.
  • Do you have a kids’ menu?
Not exactly — but we’re not monsters. While we don’t have a fancy printed children’s menu, we do offer half portions of our proper British classics like fish & chips and bangers & mash, just the right size for your little rascals. Our starters work a treat too if they fancy nibbling instead of feasting. Just give us a wink and we’ll sort them out — we aim to send them home well-fed, happy, and possibly ready for a nice long nap.
  • Why did you name it The Cheshire Arms?
Because every good British pub deserves a proper pub name! The Cheshire Arms is a nod to our British roots — think Cheshire cats, Cheshire cheese, and that warm feeling of old English hospitality wrapped up with arms wide open as well as the fact that we are located in Cheshire Village 😉
  • Who owns The Cheshire Arms?
We’re owned by Simon and Heather Townsend — one Brit, one American, who fell in love with each other and then with Black Mountain. They built this little slice of Britain right here in the mountains in July 2024.
  • Are you really British?
Well, Simon is genuinely British, down to the last drop of tea in his veins. Heather’s an honorary Brit by marriage and sheer stubbornness — and together they’ve made sure The Cheshire Arms feels properly British, with an Appalachian twist.
  • Do you have any pub traditions I should know about?
Besides a warm welcome and a pint that’ll cure what ails you? We believe in hearty comfort food, proper banter, and a good game or two — we’ve got plenty of board games lying about if you fancy a bit of friendly competition. Bring your mates, make some new ones, and settle in for a cosy time. If you’re not sure what to try first, just ask — we love helping folks find their new favourite tipple or pie.
